Attention students in the spring musical!
Once again, congratulations on such a beautiful production this past weekend. However, all good things must come to an end. Monday, March 26th, will be strike. We need bodies to come throughout the afternoon and into the evening to take apart the set. We will start right after school and go until 6:30. The technical directors (Patrick Lucy and Andrew Hernandez) will be coming in at 5ish. We start on the little things and get to the bigger things when the gentlemen come. If you left stuff during the shows, this will be the time for you to pick up whatever you left along with cleaning up the theater. The more people that come, the more work we can complete in one day instead of two days. Thank you and see everyone tomorrow!

Attention all students:
Fire alarm units are placed on buildings for a reason: to alert there is a fire and to evacuate.
Pulling a false fire alarm disrupts school and students' education. It is also against the law with consequences of up to $5000 fine and an arrest which could lead to imprisonment. School consequences result in a five day suspension for disruption of the entire school. Any person who is involved in the false fire alarms will result in both - school consequences and dealing with the law.

Congratulations to our new Robotics Club! This is a brand new club that started Fall 2016. They worked very hard to design a robot that could pick up a ball and toss it up into a basket! Of February 4, the club entered a tournament. Here is what the president of the club, Raymond Lin, said,
" The Robotics team entered the First Tech Challenge Robotics Competition and competed at the Daly City Qualifying tournament at Jefferson High School. It took place on the 4th of February. We won two games out of five and took 19th place out of 28 teams. I'm proud of us, especially considering that it was our first ever competition."
Congratulations again to the new club and the members! Thanks to Physics/Earth Science teacher, Mr. Trautman, for being the advisor of the club and thanks to one of our parents, Mr. Lieberman, who has been helping the students!

Congratulations to Ms. Dianna Ariani!
As many of you may know, Ms. Ariani teaches a Work Experience Class which includes inviting guest speakers and preparing students for the real world. In the Winter 2016 Issue of the First National Bank Newsletter, an article was written about her. Below is the typed article:
"When a Bank Truly Partners with the Community, Good Things Happen"
Nobody knows this better than Dianna Ariani, who is the daughter of Romolo Ariani, one of the founding fathers of FNB. Now a teacher at South San Francisco High School, her job is to help prepare her students for the "real world," including financial issues. that's where FNB helps.
Over the years her Work Experience class has included guest appearances by FNB CEO Tom McGraw, who explained the basics of finance and, perhaps more importantly, help students understand that success is possible even when the path may not be clear.
"Tom's career path wasn't typical for finance," Ariani said, noting that his career includes numerous acting jobs in feature films, television series, and television commercials. "His message is about being able to take that leap and not being afraid to try something new and to become a lifelong learner. That's one of our goals in the class and he demonstrates that."
Ariani meets with her students once a week to discuss their jobs and visits their work sites to speak with their supervisors. the class covers safety on the job, taxes, personal fiance, career planning and more.
"Tom helps students feel like they could go off and do whatever their hearts desire,' she said. 'It's confidence building. and any time you can get a high school student to think about banking, that's good. Banks are going to be their financial reality, and Tom helps demystify things."
Tom McGraw, Chief Executive Officer commented, "It is refreshing to see so many bright young minds. Dianna's class is a real dose of reality for these young adults."

Congratulations to James H. Coleman and Raymond Lin who have been named Commended Students in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program! A Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, were presented by Dr. Rapaido to these scholastically talented seniors!
About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2017 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students placed among the top five percent of more that 1.6 million students who entered the 2017 competition by taking the 2015 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).
"The young men and women being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success," commented a spokesperson from NMSC. "These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success."
